GOD OF WAR dug deep to win the 7f handicap at Sandown on Saturday.

Owned by Moulton Racing, the son of Mohaather has had a frustrating season so far but showed what we knew he was capable of with a game success under David Egan.

Encountering softer ground for the first time this year, he travelled well before getting up close home to win by half a length.

Tom said: "He is a lovely horse who we always felt has a decent race in him. Things haven't really gone to plan since he nearly won at the Chester May meeting so it's great to see him back on track here. He handled the ground well so hopefully he can have a decent autumn."

It was nearly a double of the day when Tabletalk went down narrowly in the Listed Chester Stakes under Jack Mitchell.
