Surrajah lands Chelmsford prize
Owned by Raj Matharu and Suresh Sivagnanam, the son of Camelot was starting off in handicaps off a lowly mark but got the job done under David Probert.
He had raced freely in novice company but David got him settled at ther rear of the field and he travelled well on the rail. They went hard up front and David crept slowly into contention still with plenty to do on turning for home.
But the quick early tempo began to take it's toll on the pacesetters and as they dropped back, Surrajah was getting into full stride and ran on strongly to win by a length.
Tom said: "We always planned to give him a break after he had run in novices - he just looked as though he needed some time to strengthen and it has worked out well.
"This wasn't a strong race but he has won it nicely and can hopefully go on from here."
Our only other flat runners this week, Daring Guest and Rajguru had both finished second so we were delighted to get a winner on the board.
