Soldierpoy gets juveniles off the mark

SOLDIERPOY provided the team with our first two-year-old winner of 2020 when taking the 5f Novice Auction at Thirsk on Monday evening.

Owned by the Shimplingthorne Syndicate, the son of Sepoy stepped up on a promising debut second at Windsor 12 days ago to win well under Ben Curtis.

Despite a poor draw in one, Soldierpoy was able to travel strongly on the far side of the pack. He picked up well to hit the front with over a furlong to go and despite idling, passed the post over a length to the good.

Tom said: "I'm delighted with that - he had a poor draw but Ben has done a great job and he has got it done. We shall now freshen him up and go for the Super Sprint where he'll have a nice low weight.

"It's always pleasing to get the first two-year-old winner on the board - we have only run two and they were both second on debut so hopefully they are a decent bunch."

Soldierpoy was purhcased for £7,000 with agent Billy Jackson-Stops at the Tatteralls Ascot Yearling Sale last September.
