Maestro Mac wins on stable debut

We picked him up for just 8,000gns at Tattersalls last month for owners Brian Keane and Steve Nugent. It is their first foray into racehorse ownership and Maestro Mac has provided them with a dream start.

The heavy rain meant that the field was down to just six runners but as Maestro Mac was untried on the very soft ground, Tom let him take his chance.

He was given a lovely ride by Andrea Atzeni who had him in a good rhythm on the heels on the leaders. He was first under pressure but stayed on well to win narrowly by a short head.

Tom said: "That was great. We haven't had him long and ideally I would have liked another week with him before this race, but it was the ideal spot for him and it's great to get another winner. He shouldn't go up too much in the handicap and can hopefully be a bit of fun for the rest of the season."
