Broughtons Gold maintains hot-streak
BROUGHTONS Gold kept up the yard's hot-streak with a convincing success in a six-furlong handicap at Newbury on Thursday afternoon.
Owned and bred by Michael Broughton, the son of Lethal Force was a winner at Kempton on his second start as a two-year-old and stepped up on that to win on his seasonal return off a mark of 71.
He was aways to the fore under Andrea Atzeni, travelling strongly upsides the leaders. With two furlongs to run, the rest of the field were under pressure and Andrea went for home aboard Broughtons Gold.
He soon went a couple of lengths clear and stayed on well to by a length and three quarters.
Tom said: "He won over seven furlongs at Kempton last year but has been showing plenty of speed in his homework and looks as though six furlongs on turf is his gig.
"His work has been good and he is a lovely big horse with a bright future. We were very grateful for the rain as he wouldn't want fast ground."
Broughtons Gold was a sixth winner of the week for the team.
